    Atlantic Chambers Play Prominent Role at Canadian Chamber of Commerce Conference

     
    Windsor, NS (October 17, 2024) – The ACC, along with 20 local chambers and boards of trade from Atlantic Canada will convene with their national counterparts for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Conference and AGM in Halifax, NS. This national convention provides a platform for chambers and community business leaders to engage in discussions regarding the economic and political factors affecting the prosperity of Canadian businesses.
     
    Highlights include:
    • BDC’s President & CEO Isabelle Hudon will address the evolving landscape of entrepreneurship.
    • Chamber network leaders will examine Canada’s productivity conundrum, identifying critical issues affecting the future of business success in the country and exploring how chambers can support businesses. Anthony Azard, CEO of Chambre de commerce Cap-Acadie, will represent Atlantic Canada on this panel.
    • Rhonda Tulk-Lane, CEO of the ACC will deliver remarks at the conference's opening, sincerely thanking retired Canadian Chamber President & CEO Perrin Beatty for his enduring support of the Atlantic Chamber network and sharing enthusiasm for collaborating with the new CEO, Candace Laing.
    Chambers of Commerce across Atlantic Canada have submitted 7 resolutions for the 2024 Canadian Chamber of Commerce Annual Policy Debates.
     
    1. Addressing the Affordability Crisis by Getting Back to Fiscal Balance and Right-Sizing Government – Atlantic Chamber of Commerce
    2. Experiential Learning as Educational and Cost of Living Supports for International Students – Fredericton Chamber of Commerce
    3. Adding to Canada’s Housing Supply by Strengthening Canada’s Military Through Housing on Military Bases – Halifax Chamber of Commerce
    4. Training and Alignment of Supports for Local Police Departments for the Investigation of Cyber Crimes – Sussex & District Chamber of Commerce and Fredericton Chamber of Commerce
    5. Improvements to the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act – Atlantic Chamber of Commerce
    6. Comprehensive Re-evaluation of Predator Species Management to Revitalize Canada’s Fisheries - Chambre de commerce Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce
    7. Streamline Trade Regulations for Increased Business Between Canada and the United States – The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton.
    If these policies are approved, they will become priorities for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce

    The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce takes proactive steps to promote reconciliation and respect for Indigenous rights within the corporate sector. In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action 92, the Chamber urges its members to embrace the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a guiding framework.

     

    Recognizing the importance of education, the Chamber encourages businesses to provide comprehensive training for management and staff on the history of Indigenous peoples, including the legacy of residential schools, Indigenous rights, and Aboriginal-Crown relations. Emphasizing intercultural competency, conflict resolution, and anti-racism, these efforts aim to foster a more inclusive and harmonious corporate environment rooted in mutual understanding and respect.
