    Two Annapolis Valley groups to receive funding for doctor recruitment, retention

    Two groups in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley are getting government funding to help recruit and retain health-care professionals in the area. The Mid Valley Region Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee will receive $73,765 and the Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce will receive $77,105.

    Annapolis Valley chamber, small businesses call on N.S. government to ‘level the playing field’

    The Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce (AVCC) and the MLA for Kings North are calling on the province to level the playing field for small businesses. A small business owner in Kentville who opened on May 25 and was fined $11,622 by police for doing so says he did it as a form of protest.

    The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce takes proactive steps to promote reconciliation and respect for Indigenous rights within the corporate sector. In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action 92, the Chamber urges its members to embrace the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a guiding framework.

     

    Recognizing the importance of education, the Chamber encourages businesses to provide comprehensive training for management and staff on the history of Indigenous peoples, including the legacy of residential schools, Indigenous rights, and Aboriginal-Crown relations. Emphasizing intercultural competency, conflict resolution, and anti-racism, these efforts aim to foster a more inclusive and harmonious corporate environment rooted in mutual understanding and respect.
