    Amherst ready for border to reopen with New Brunswick

    Ron Furlong, executive director of the Amherst and Area Chamber of Commerce, said his organization’s members have been patiently waiting to reopen to New Brunswick customers. The chamber understands the process used and the need to protect the population, but Furlong said it also recognizes the need to reopen as virus numbers come down and stay down.

    Cumberland County MLA urging Amherst to lobby province to open border

    AMHERST, N.S. – Cumberland North’s MLA wants the Maritime premiers to pay more than lip service to the concept of a regional bubble during the COVID-19 crisis. Speaking to Amherst town council’s June committee-of-the-whole meeting on Zoom on Monday, June 15, Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin said she has written several letters to the three Maritime premiers without response. As well, the Amherst and Area Chamber of Commerce and the Cumberland Business Connector have been asking for a Cumberland/Tantramar (Zone 1)

    The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce takes proactive steps to promote reconciliation and respect for Indigenous rights within the corporate sector. In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action 92, the Chamber urges its members to embrace the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a guiding framework.

     

    Recognizing the importance of education, the Chamber encourages businesses to provide comprehensive training for management and staff on the history of Indigenous peoples, including the legacy of residential schools, Indigenous rights, and Aboriginal-Crown relations. Emphasizing intercultural competency, conflict resolution, and anti-racism, these efforts aim to foster a more inclusive and harmonious corporate environment rooted in mutual understanding and respect.
