Eight Maritime companies are the lucky recipients of a $10,000 grant from the Canadian Business Resilience Network, which is offering grants to 62 companies to help support Covid-19 recovery efforts.

Winners of the grant were chosen based on how they demonstrated their financial strain, how the grant will be used, what type of change will allow the business to continue and how this would support the community.

The owners Rogue Coffee Company in Saint John were thrilled with the much-needed injection of cash.

“When we learned that we are recipients of the grant it was unbelievable! We literally had to pinch each other to make sure it was real. At a time when all of our worlds are upside down and inside out we are so grateful to have allies in the fight,” said owners Vanessa and Mike Duncan.

“Thank you to the Saint John Region Chamber, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and to Salesforce for having the backs of small business. It means everything.”

MOCO Downtown, an Italian restaurant in Fredericton, was also a recipient. Like the Duncans, MOCO’s owners also value the support of the chambers.

“No doubt every small business could use a boost like this in times like these. Adapting to the new normal in an ongoing challenge,” said Shawna Foster, co-owner of MOCO downtown.

“What an incredible initiative from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Salesforce to help out small, local business. The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce has not only been a backbone of support during these difficult times but also a beacon of light and hope that we will not only survive this but maybe even come out stronger on the other side.”

Six other Atlantic Canadian companies also received the grant, including two from Halifax:

    • Biscuit General Store, Halifax
    • Sonic Concerts, Halifax
    • Hotel Paulin, Caraquet
    • Fewers Hairstyling Salon, Marystown, Newfoundland
    • Cabot Shores Wilderness Resort, Englishtown, Nova Scotia
    • Small Print Board Game Cafe, Charlottetown (now Hive and Hollow)

More than 1,100 small businesses across Canada applied for the 62 available grants. The fund was managed by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and made possible by Salesforce.
